Condolences to the family and friends of Dame Jenni Murray

Broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray hosted BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour for more than three decades. She joined the programme in 1987 and left in 2020 as its longest serving presenter. During this time she interviewed every Prime Minister and other high profile figures as varied as Bette Davis, Hilary Clinton, Joan Baez and Margaret Attwood.

The South Yorkshire born presenter started her career in broadcasting in 1973 in Bristol, before joining BBC TV’s South Today and later BBC Two’s Newsnight.

During her long and celebrated career Dame Jenni was honoured with a damehood in 2011 for her services to broadcasting, along with two Sony Awards and she was also made a member of the Radio Academy Hall of Fame.

In latter years Dame Jenni faced various health challenges including a hip replacement in 2028 following avascular necrosis. Following this she joined The Arthroplasty for Arthritis Charity as a Patron and in this role she supported the charity in various ways including attending our charity reception and auction at the Ritz in 2020.

As our esteemed Patron we are saddened to learn of her passing.
